THE FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
At a summoned meeting of the Committee last evening, a letter was received from the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, informing the' Committee that the sum of Lls 10s had beon voted towards a special prize, as emanating from the Association, t© be competed for at the forthcoming demonstration. A letter was also received from tflc Registrar of the University, stating that, the Committee’s letter applying for the use of the University Hall on the 27th December would be laid before the Council on Monday. Letters were read- and received from the A.O.F. and M.U.1.0.0.F., granting their patronage to the demenstration. A telegram was received from the Timaru Brigade, entering for all events. The General Manager of Railways wrote stating that if the Committee would forward names of the various teams and the name of the Brigade they represent, passes would be made out. The Artillery Band have consented to turn out on Saturday, the 23rd inst., and play at the torchlight procession. From the reports of collectors, subscriptions were coining in fre ;ly, and lists are to be published as soon as closed.
