VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
N.D.R. CUP COMPETITION. Fourteen membera of the North Dunedin Rifles mustered at the Pelichet Bay range this morning for the second competition for the cup presented to the corps by Volunteer J. E. Hutchinson. The ranges were 200, 500, and 600 yards; five shots at each; new Wimbledon targets ; standing at 200 yards. Corporal Richardson holds the trophy till the next competition, this being the first occasion this year on which he has headed the company. The Bruce Rifles also fired in the first stage this morning. The weather was good, but there was a baffling wind at 600 yards. This match proved an easy victory for the Rivertonians, who scored 474 against 383 by the Guards. The score by the Riverton men, 47.4 per man, is an excellent being two points per man over centres. BATTALION PARADE. The usual monthly battalion parade was held last night in the Headquarters Drillshed. The total strength on parade was ; Staff: 1 major and 2 sergeants. Artillery; 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 3 sergeants, and 20 rank and file. City Guards : 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 3 sergeants, and 32 rank and file. North Dunedin : 1 captain, 1 sub-lieutenant, 2 sergeants, 1 bugler, and 15 rank and file. Wakari: 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 1 sub-lieu-tenant, 2 sergeants, and 34 rank and file.
Dunedin Naval Brigade : 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 1 sub lieutenant, 4 petty officers, and 26 rank and file. City Qnards Cadets : 1 captain, I lieutenant, 1 sub-lieutenant, 8 sergeants, and 34 rank and file. Artillery Band: 16. City Guards Band, 18. the Eire brigade demonstration. A consultation of Volunteer officers was held last night, for the purpose of consider mg the request that Volunteers should take part in the torchlight procession to be held in connection with the above demonstration. It was resolved that they could not consistently accede to the proposal.
