Mr Skene reports for the week ending December “’ SS f °l |Bws: —Between holidays, horse racing, and cattle shows, business and work since Thursday have almost been laid aside. We may now look for three weeks of activity till Christmas. Station wants are about supplied; arable farmers only need an odd hand now and again; female servants are short of the demand; day labor is plentiful; shopmen and clerks too plentiful; hotel people are active; shearers are all placed. Wages; Couples, ploughmen, L 52 to LG'); shepherds, L6oto L7O; day labor (road, rail, and bush, Ac.), Ss and 9s; dairy people, 15s and 20s : cooks, waiters, grooms, gardeners, &c , 25s to 60s per week; storemen .and clerks, 30s to 60s per week; boys and girls, 6s to 10s; house and dairy girls, 12s to Ins; hotel do, 12s, 15s, 20s, and np to 30s’
