A NEW ZEALAND MATRIMONIAL GAZETTE.
The "N,Z. Licensed Victualler " has launched out (for this ( olony) an entirely new field of enterprise by establishing a ' Matrimonial Gazette," prefacing the first batch of notices from eligible candidates for the holy estate by the following "Address to the Public ": Marriage is such an ancient institution and has in all ages eucifced such universal interest among the human family, that in offering to the public columns in our journal especially devoted to the promotion of marital felicity, we feel sure we are only supplying a national want. Civilisation combined with the cold formalities of society and the rules of etiquette imposes such restriction on the sexes, that there arc thousands of marriageable men and women of all ages capable pf making each other happy, who never have a chance of meeting either iu town or country, therefore the desirability of having some organ through which ladies and gentlemen aspiring to marriage can be honorably brought into communication, is too obvious to need demonstration, and as we are resolved to devote our best energies to advance the interests and happiness of our readers and corespondents, we feel sure that our columns will meet with a generous support. Then follow the rules and regulations to be observed by correspondents, intimating inter alia that bond fide, notices from ladies and gentlemen will be inserted at the rate of twelve stamps per thirty words, or such notices will be inserted three times for 2s 6d, or six
times for 4s; and that every notice shall state the age, general appearance, and position in life of the sender, and also some description of the lady or gentleman (as the case may be) with whom a correspondence is desired, &c, ifec.
