THE D.J.C. SPRING MEETING.

There was not much fast work done at the Forbury this morning, but most of the horses in training were out. Dead Heat and Fishhook went a mile together on the course at a smart pace, the old horse going in good style, hut the colt running unkindly. Glengarry aud Tadinor worked together. The chesnut gives oue the impression that, he has lost some of his last season's form. Tadmor's suspiciou- leg shows no signs 'sufficient to cause alarm, and he may be ablo to reach the end of the short handicap. Eight Bower and Kathleen went a mile in company, but Ooth have been taken up too late. Kir William had a steady canter by himself, aud Kiug Philip also oantered ;.lono. Both these Otago candidates will prove dangerous to-morrow. Mr Walters's horses exercised on the bpach; Kingfisher having a breather on the soft-going, while Izaak Walton was not extended. Flying Beauty and Eosina had a short spin i ogether, goiug fairly. Darkie continued his schooling over the hurdles, and showed some improroaaent on his yesterday's style, The above

Polly and l.ucy are thonekt to have a show in the Trotting Handicap; but the strangers, Major and Blackboy, are also sup. ported freely. Nothing but Banjo and Kildare is backed for the Hurdle Bace, but transactions on the Railway Plate are nil. For the Maiden Plate I think Mr Hastie's filly will be hard to beat, and I shall place Miss Elswick 1, Dead Heat 2, Spray 3. For the St. Andrew s Handicap, King Philip 1, Kingfisher 2, Glengarry 3. The Selling Race will probably prove a contest between Flying Beauty, Fox and Kathleen, which I shall expect to sue fiuish in the order named. The Spring Handicap will depend greatly on the running for the big race, hut I shall vote for Sir William 1, Haphazard 2, Tadhor 3 I know nothing about the trotting horses from the North, and for the Trot I shall stick to Polly 1 Lucy 2, Major 3. Banjo should win the Hurdle Race, with old Kildare 2, Darkie 3. Pegasus.
