THE WAIIIOLA REVIEW. The Under-Secretary for Defence, writing to Major stavely ftom WeUington, under date November 28, on the above subject, says :-«' The Hon. Native Minister has instructed me to say that he read your report with much pleasure, and desires me to convey to you, and through you to the Volunteer force, an expression of the satisfaction entertained by him of. the manner in which the arrangements for the review were carried out, and the zeal displayed by the officers, non commissioned officers, and men on that occasion."
THE COLONIAL PRIZE-FIRING. The City Guards were debarred from firing for choice of representatives in the Colonial competition this morning, the obstruction which prevented the Waikari Eillcs from firing yesterday not being removed. To-morrow work will be begun in earnest, the Port Chalmers Naval Brigade firing in the first stage.
THE LADIES' CHALLENGE SHIELD The DunedinXavalßrigadefiredin thefinal stage for a representative team this morning The weather was puffy, and the shooting indifferent throughout, P. 0. Jamieson being the only member who managed to tot up a score. The ranges, as in the two previous competitions, were 200, 400, and 500 yards ; five shots at each; Wimbledon (new) targets. One more competition is to be fired. The Bruce Herald says :_» These five may be considered representatives for the Shield at the Otago lane Association meeting in December next; as the sixth man, Private lough is ten points behind, which number is more than he can expect to pull up ; RubLieutenant Reid and Private Matheson, sen., are sixteen points behind."
