THE VOLUNTEERS.
The usual monthly parade of the West Taien Rifles was held in the Drill-shed, Outram, on Tuesday evening. There were present Two lieutenants, three sergeants, two corporals, and twenty-four rank and file. After inspection and the usual drill, the commanding officer addressed the company, complimenting them on their discipline and general behaviour at the review at W aibola. A meeting was held afterwards, presided over by Lieut. Blatch, at which Mr J. Iveson was unanimously elected captain of the company. Mr Frank M ‘Dermid was elected bandmaster, vice Mr Iveson. The Greymouth Volunteers have very decided to make efforts to disestablish themselves as riflemen and go in for artillery.
