THE LATE MR ALEXANDER FINDLATER.
To the Editor, IR > - —To-day’s * Times,’ in giving an account of the varied career of the late Secretary of the Caledonian Society,' states ; We are informed that he at one time held the same position as the great Wizard of the North, Sir Walter Scott.” This, sir, read in connection with what immediatelyprecedes it, refers to a relationship with the Supreme, Courts of Scotland. For the information of all concerned, and with the view of preventing errors from being circulated, however unmtentienally they may be made, I have to state that the position held by the late Sir Walter Scott in connection with the Law Courts of "Edinburgh, was that of one of the Principal Clerks of Session, which is known by that of the Inner House. It is a «ne qua rum that the holder of such an othce should be a member of the Faculty of Advocates. As the late Mr Findlater was not a member of the above mentioned hj acuity, and could not therefore possess the qualifications required by the holders of the said office, it follows that the information referred to is incorrect. insertion of this will oblige.—l am.
