CITY POLICE COURT.
Monday, November 13. (Before E. ff. Ward, Esq., and J. Griffen, Esq., J.P/a.)
DRUNKEMfESS.—Jane M'Leod, who admitted that she was a " little inebriated" but not disorderly, was discharged in consequence of her having been locked up since Saturday; Ralph Mumford, John Gibson Westrail, Thomas lleynolds, and Alexander M'Donald, wore all fined ss, in twenty-four hours' imprisonment; James M'Crombie, for being drunk while in charge of a horse, 20s or forty-eight hours' imprisonment.—Margt. Smith was charged with being drunk and with having no lawful means of support. It appeared that her husband was in gaol in Invercargill, and the Southland folk had interested themselves on her behalf and sent her to Dunedin. Since then she had led a dissipated life, and spent most of
her time in gaol. Her child had been taken away from her and put in the Industrial! School. For being drunk she was fined L 5, in default, fourteen days' imprisonment. The major charge was dismissed. A Weak Case. —John Stuart was charged, on remand, with being on the premises of Hyam Metz, tobacconis", with intent to commit a felony.—lnspector Mallard: Nothing has transpired during the week to throw any further light upon this matter. I am just in the same position I was when the case came before the Court last week.—Mr Ward: Then you wish to enter a nolle prosequi, I suppose.—Mr Mallard: If your Worship pleases. Whatever hardship the accused has bsen put to has been brought en by himself.—The accused was accordingly discharged.
