Settling a Difficulty.—John Forrester, a young man on remand from Oamaru, was charged by George Wyber, with stealings at, South Dtmedin, on October 30, a quantity of wearing;-apparel' of the value of ss.—' Prosecutor explained that the case had arisen out of an elopement between his daughter and the accused. At the time he gave information .to the police he was naturally incensed, and .took steps to> bring the accused back. This morning Forrester married his daughter, and he (prosecutor) wished'to have the xmarge wiijhdrajra. Forrester asked his'forgiveness, obtained it, married his daughter, and all was thus settled quietly.—lnspector Mallard : A very happy termination, your Worships.—The accused was discharged. Petty Larcenies.—lsabella Daly, who appeared with a. child in her arms, was charged, on remand, with stealing a- pair of trousers, the property of George Soulti Evidence in this case was taken yesterday, and the Bench reserved its decision.—She was now further charged with stealing one waterproof cloak and petticoat of the value of 20s, the property of Aune Maria Horley. .Prisoner stated that she had been drinking with prosecutrix and another- woman, land that prosecutrix gave her the dread to pawn.—She was sent to gaol for three flays on «ach offence.—lnspector Mallard: TJie. governor of the gaol cannot take the baby inso the gaol. He intimated that to me yesterday.—Prisoner (sobbing): Oh,, don't take the child away from me. —The Inspector : The only thing I can do now is to put the child on the sheet and send it to the Industrial School.—Prisoner : Oh, don't do that.^Dr K Mven: As,-she, is not sentenced to s hard .labor, what is there to prevent her looking aiUf the child ?; The W«U> th« governor' v dftdi^j^lla^aoajß.
