The Evening Star. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1876.

The Caversham School Committee have elected Mr Hugh Calder to represent them at the Provincial Convention on the Bth inst. The only case of importance heard in the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day was J. B. Bradshaw v. the Peninsula and Ocean Beach Railway Company, which was a cla\m for L9O for services rendered as secretary, &c. Judgment was reserved. The trustees of the Dempsey Fund have resolved to grant the sum of L2O towards the purchase of instruments for ths formation of a fife and drum band among the boys of the Industrial School, Caversnam, provided other subscriptions are obtained sufficient to enable a complete set of firstclass instruments being bought. It has been ascertained that the cost of the necessary instruments will be about L 35 or L4O. There are surely a sufficient number of persons interested in the youthful inmates of the Industrial School to render the fulfilment of the conditions of the grant of easy accomplishment. We understand subscriptions will be received from the friends of the Institution by Mr Titchener, the master of the school, and by Mr Hislop, the honorary inspector, at the Education Office.

He was immediately placed on a stretcher, and carried to the railway station at the Port, where Dr O'Donoghue, who was promptly in attendance, after examining his injuries, recommended bis removal to the Dunedin Hospital, whither he was taken by the 1.30 p.m. train.
