NUISANCES IN LEITH WARD.
To the Editor.
Sir, —I noticed in your issue of the 31st ult. a letter relative to the unseemly state in which the gutters on the east side of Lower George street have been allowed to remain for more than a month. Now, I disclaim all connection with that class of our citizens who delight in finding fault with everything and everybody ; but I cannot allow this opportunity to pass without placing on record my protest against the utter negligence manifested (by the councillors for Leith Ward especially) to the disgraceful appearance of one of the main thoroughfares of the City. "Health" is strictly correct when he points to the probability of an outbreak of dangerous maladies arising from the good-natured neglect on the part of those whom we return to the position of City guardians. There is such a thing as "locking the stable door when the steed is stolen." Apogising for trespassing ou your valuable columns thus far, I am, Ac, Perambulator. Dunedin, November 1.
