Ariel, stripped, and UttA H«rt in olelhing, did a fine three-mile gallop and both pulled up well. Fishhook for surpasses his Dnnedin form and west nearly four miles splendidly. He still blows loudly. Monaghan stripped Templeton and Pungawerewere and Mat them lor a stiff three mile, the mare fairly losing her companion. Follefarine joined in the last round. Titania went for a fair spin by herself, but is not of much acoount. Danebury stripped and went a fast three miles, hilf with Lady of the- Xiea, and half with Fallacy. The colt is in magnificent form, and strong as a lion. Cloth of Gold, Middleton, and. Wrangler went two miles at a fair pace, but the last-named blows terribly, and Bob Boy and Tommy Todd stripped and went three miles in company. The Duneain horse had it all his own way, going with beautiful close action, and pulled up without turning a hair. Tadmor did nothing. The Auckland hone) worked well. There is little betting, but sweeps are drawn every evening. For the Derby, Dead Heat, Danebury, and Fanny Fisher colt fetch the best prices. For the Cup, Guy Fawkes, Danebury, and Ariel. For the Handicap, Bob Boy, Fishhook, Tadmor, Ngaro, and -tfaroro. Danebury was knocked out of the Derby betting a few days ago, upon which Mr Nosworthy received an anonymous letter, signed "Be warned in time." It is said that people suspected Danebury hadbeen made safe by some of the bookmakers who stood bad against him. and cautioned Mr Nosworthy against any complicity, as immediate exposure would follow. Mr Nosworthy said the letter was before the Jockey Club, who could take £0 notice, it being anonymous. A Tattersail's (Club was formed here last night, with the object of keeping the betting crowd select. The bookmaker Murphy was publicly posted yesterday as a defaulter to the extent of LSOO. The Convention. PaimTESTok, November 2.—At a meeting of the Town Co.tocU last evening the Council unanimously expressed &* opinion that they see no necessity for the Ma ▼<>* attending the Convention. The Mayor and 'Omncillors expressed themselves in favor of AbolitioHr "WnraoH, Novemte* 2.—At a public meeting of the ratepayers a reso Motion requesting the Mayor of the Borough to attend the Convention was carried; the meeting guaranteeing the necessary expenses. Cbohwsll, November a! —-Yestero|ay the Municipal Council passed a resolu*to» against the Mayor attending the Convention, u'«" *he feeling- of the members was against Mr MacffnoLrev/s policy, and that no good could result from the proposed meeting. Laweencb, November B.—At a meeting of the School Committee last night the Superintendent s circular was received, and a motion carried unani* mously not to eatertain it. The general feeling of the meeting was that, as Abolition had pa seed, and become law, the meeting, as proposed, is inadvisable, and likely to be hurtful to the interests«."»? the country. The Major (Mr Praer) thought of cav a special meeting of the Council re the Convention but ascertained that the feeling of his Councillors was dead against sending a representative, so he did not call it. He holds the extraordinary idea that letters forwarded to him as Mayor are for his own private information, and it is a matter of courtesy on his part to bring them before the public or Council.
