The Wellington papers are saying some peculiar things concerning our Convention. For example, the ‘Argus ’ hears that a large majority in the Convention will be in favor of resisting Abolition by every means, and that Mr Macandrew is perfectly prepared to accept and act on advice in this direction. It is even alleged on good authority that many of the leading importers and merchants in Dunedin have expressed their determination to pay duties to whoever may be appointed by Mr Macandrew to receive them, instead of to the General Government Customs officers.
