The Turco-Servlan War.
London, October 14.—The conditions alone on which the Porte will agree to an armistice until March are the present possession by Turkey of the positions occupied by Servia, and Servia's evacuation of all strongholds; the Great Powers to settle details. The Porte asks that the importation of anas and entry of volunteers from foreign nations into Servia and Montenegro be prohibited, and insists that they will reieot the armistice while numbers of Bussians are joining the Servians. Lord-Lieutenancy of Ireland. London, Undated.—The Duke of Abercorn has resigned the Lord-Lieutenancy, in which he is succeeded by the Duke of Marlborough. Champion Billiard Match. Ltvxecabgill, October 31.—The Mayor (Mr Cuthbertson) declines to attend the Convention, stating that he does not apprehend any "evil results" from the Abolition of Provinces Act; on the contrary, he expects much benefit to the Southland district and Province of Otago from it. The Invercargill School Committee, at their meeting last evening, decided—" That the invitation to the Convention bo respectfully acknowledged; but, in absence of a programme of proceedings or any assurance thai, the business of the Convention will be t earnestly to take the best advantage of the new state of political affairs, this committee declines to incur the expenses necessary to send a delegate." Some of his friends merely expressed a wish that he would accept it, but he will not do so without some very urgent call. At the inquest to-dav on the body of H. S. SmallHeld, who was found drowned in the harbor, a verdict of "■ Accidental death " was returned.
