towards Ford, who immediately levelled the piece at the constable, saying he " had shot » policeman before, aud would not be taken ;.live." At this juncture Hayes snatched ' e gun from Ford, and took it into the hut. . "rd thereupon ade a ru*h into the bush a.i-I was not captured until half-past three ;> clock on the morning of the 19fch inst., vhen he was arrested by Constable Griffiths » Mr Cuthbertson's station on the Waiau. <lr Reatie appeared for the prisoner, who xas committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court. It appears that Ford was temporarily confined in the Lunatic Asylum <about two years ago, having lost his reason over some love affair. —' Southland Times.'
