The accident to George Ellison, laborer, which occurred at the Deborah Bay tunnel on Wednesday latt, terminated fatally this morning. By way of a foot-note to his circular, announcing the proposed Provincial convention, his Honor the Superintendent requests that in districts where there is no permanent chairman of. the School Committee, that body will nominate one of its members to represents.

The first portion of the evening’s entertainment consisted of songs, &c., very ably given by .a number, pf> lady and gentlemen amateurs. . (head ’ teacher), was presented to that gentleman by Mr Dell, of Messrs Currie and Bell. ; The recipient thanked the donors for their very handsome gift, and referred in feeling terms, to his past connection with the school. After the concert was over dancing commenced with great spirit; and was kept up witfi unflagging zest to the small hours of, the morning. •
The annual meeting of the TJ.’O, D. f - A. 0. P,, was held at the Douglas Hotel last evening. There -were present the" various delegates and representatives from the following Courts of Dunedin, Enterprise Pride of the Leith, Robin Hood, St. Andrew, and Star of Tuapeka, together ■with the Executive. After the correspondence had been disposed of, the balancesheet and auditors’ report were read.' The former-showed that the increase had not been io large as usual, owing to the heavy funeral allowance for the year, viz',. LUO, but it was considered very satisfactory; The district relief fund amounted to L 370 9s Bd, and the total worth of the district was L 1,672 8s 9d. The election of, officers for the ensuing twelve months resulted as follows;-D.O.R., Bro. .W.Pinck; D.S.C.R., Bfo. D; Pinkerton; D.5.,/Bro. W, Woodland; D.T., Bro; W. G. Geddes ; D.8., Bro. Stratton; Eros. J. Wilson and W; G. Wilkinson were 1 appointed auditors. Several other subjects were then discussed at some length, and, after the usual votes of thanka to the newly elected and ; retiring officers, the meeting terminated.

J. Haley, of America, is his successor to the pulpit in this City. Mr Bates will preach his farewell discourse to morrow even ing in the cha iel Great King street.
