CITY POLICE COURT.
Tuesday, October 24. (Before A. Mercer, Esq., and A. Mollison. Esq., J.P's.) Drunkenness. Thomas Oglesbn was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. George Williams, 40s, or 14 days. Sunday Liquor Traffic.—Patrick Fagan, landlord of the Southern Hotel, was charged with suffering to be sold in his licensed house, on Sunday, October 15th, two shillings' worth of brandy to one Mary Dougal, not a bona fide lodger or traveller. Mr F. R. Chapman defended.—Sergt. Anderson said that on passing the Southern Hotel on the day in question he saw a woman come J out of the hotel with a bottle in her hand. IHe went inside the hotel, and on taxing defendant with supplying the woman with two shillings' worth of brandy, he denied it. Witness called Mrs Dougal in, and defendant said to her "You did net get anything here," and when she replied* "Idid," he said "Did you not tell me it was for some one who was ill."—Mrs Dougal gave corroborative evidence. —The Bench*held that there had been a contravention of the law, and fined defendant 20s and costs.
