THE CHORAL SOCIETY.
To tlie Editor. . Sib,—l was much and pleasingly surprised at the sensible, though not too severe, critique which appeared in your issue of the 21st inst. on the Choral Society's concert. Without being overflattering, it lacked that hypercriticism which some musical snobs have, of late, indulged in, thus striking a "happy medium." Your suggestion concerning a Christmas concert is happy too. Why cannot the Society give the "Messiah?" Properly, not selection, but the whole—l mean all that is usually sung at Home. This could be easily done; for, judging from last Friday's concert, they have plenty of good voices for the solos, and .the chorus is very strong too, while the band is undoubtedly th-i strpngest Dunedin ever had; ko that, altogether, it should be a great success, and could nol-. fail to please the people who understand good music. Hoping those gentlemen who got up the last concert so successfully will help us to another musical treat.—l am, &c, Jewshabp. Dunedin, October 24.
