THE MELBOURNE CUP.

A cablegram from Sydney gives the final acceptors for the Melbourne Cup'. Some of the horses' names were incorrectly telegraphed, but we believe that the following list will be found correct: -

If the above are correct we find that there are forty-two who have cried content out of 73 who paid the first instalment. Among the soratchings are several that have been backed to a considerable extent. They are Wollomai (whose stable companion Dilke appears to be the chosen one), The Ace (who has. probably not regained his once brilliant form), Melbourne (injured at Kan&wick), Specuktion, A.T. (lame), Mountaineer Hercules, Neotsfield (much fancied), Light of Day, The Painter (an early favorite). Break of Day, Superstition (spotted as soon as weights came out), Naughty Boy, Angler -.Crysolito oolt (injured in the s.s. Dandenong), Connaught (Mr Tait's other candidate and a very disappointing horse), Bingwood, strop (the old Tasmanian) • NUteoy, Evoulight, Banter, Miss Kingston, Ginger (winner of some very fast races and a good deal fancied), Lord Lytton, Florin (in- ! ur f ) *. Winds <* (supposed by some to be the best of "Jimmy Wilson's' 1 stable), The Cardinal, and Gentility. Of the acoeptQN, at least ten or eleven may be expwted to drop out before Cup day. leaving a fine field of thirty w no to compete for .the great prize By the «Leader' of the 14th inst., the latest betting, previous to the aweptaooes, wsa as follows J— r 160 to IS against Irish Stew (tk) 100 to 12 „ Valentia (tit) I°o to 7 „ Impudsnoe (tk • § » Newmiuster (off) 400 to d „ K<smet (tk) JWto 6 „ Dilke (tk) 100 to 4 „ Bapidßay(tk) 106 to 4. „ \ t %)
