SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.

it is stated by the Nelson papers that the injuries received by Mr Izatf, second officer of the stenuiei Albion, while rescuing a young lady who fell off the Wellinutou wharf, were so severe as to incapacitate him from duty for some time. A serious case of stubbing occurred on board the barque Robina D«n\oi> at Auckland last week. Or>' of the seamen, James Brookfield, had been drinking heavily for some time, and returned to his vessel in a state of beastly intoxication. After coming on board he conducted himself in a very disorderly manuer, swearing and cursing fearfully, and the seoond officer, Mr J. Smith, found it necessary to order him forward. Bro< kfleld obstinately refused to go, and the mate, assisted by several of ithe men, attempted to d ag him forward. Brookfield, not appreciating their attentions, drew his kaifo, and stabbed Smith in the thigh, inflicting a seriou* wound several inches deep. He also cut the clothes of several sailors. The cut on Smith's was found to pass in very close proximity to the femoral artery, the severing of which would have caused the'man to bleed to death. Brookfield has been committed for trial. Mr Smi his recovering. Per White Euple (Captain Roberts), from London, August 7.—For Port Chalmers: Saloon—Mr Newton Fairs, Mr W. J. Brown, Mr H. Duncombe Mr A. S. Bathbone, and Mr E. A. Smith. The fine iron clipper barque Baldovan, cf Dundee. Captain Scott, is so long overdue that all hope of her is given up. She left Bluff Harbor, New Zealand, in ballast, for Valparaiso, on 7th April last, ond has not since been hoard of. Captain Scott belongs to Aibroath, and the crew, which nun bered abeut twenty hands, were chiefly natives of England. The Southland ' News * Bluff correspondent adds:—"lt, will be remembered that a few dajs before she sailed from the Bluff the whole of the crew refused to work, were taken to prison, and next day appeared before the Bench, who ordered them on board their vessel. If I remember cor. rectly they were taken on board in irons. Takine into consideration that the vessel had 400 tons of ballast on board, and the crew, as it wero being taken on board by force, it leads one to the sad conclusion that it is not at all unlikely that the men will have mutinied at sea, and thus oaused the loss of their own and all hands' lives. This may not have been the case, but from the stability of the barque and the steady habits of her commander it is more likely to be so than otherwise. The owners of the missipg vessel have written to the Customs Department here for a U„t of the crew that left the port in their ship."

THE CENTENNIAL BOWING MATCHES,

In the rowing matches on the Schuylkill, Philadelphia, in the four-oared ontrigser race between a Thames and New York crew, the London crew won by ltfeecs. The Halifax crew beat the Parisians. In the single scull r ce between Hatlmand Tbomas, of London, and Coulter, of Pittsburg, Harlm won easily. Pat Luther, of Pittsburg, and| Iligghw, of London, rowed, and the former won; but as the Britisher claimed a foul the race will have to be rowed over ag!«in. Brayley, of St. John's, whipped Green, of London, in a single scull race.
