The schooner Jane Anderson arrived yesterdaywltl} a cargo of timber from Hokitika, having been ,detained at that port for nearly f pur months, owing to the iir passable condition of the bar.'Ehe left 1 Hokitika jn the 4th inst,, experienced light S.W.and variable winds to fuyiVa'. • The s.s. Arawata with the Suez mails from Melbourne via the Bluff arrived alongside the railway pier at-4.30 this morning- She brings 42 passengers and 210 tons of cargo for this port, ana left Melbourne at 6 p.m. on the 12th; passed Bbodondo Islands at 6.80 next morning, experienced a-strong S.E. wisd with heavy head sea until the 16th, thence light northerly winds ; passed the Solanders at 6 p.m. otf ths anchored off the. Bluff ijt 11 p.m. j steamed up the harbor- aiid moored’ alongside the wharf at 6 a.m on the 18th ; discharged cargo] mails, &c., and left again at 4 p.m., arriving as above. The Union Company's s.s. Taiaroa arrived from Timaru bfc 5.30 this morning, and. passed up to without stopping at the port.
