CITY POLICE COURT.

Thubsdat, October 12. (Before H. S. Pish, Esq., and A Mercer, Esq., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness. - George Wintoul and Neilson Thomson were each fined sa, in default, twenty-four hours* imprisonment; Mary M'Donald 40s, or fourteen days'. Alleged Fokgery.—John Tirrell, clerk was charged on the information of Wm' Morley, clerk, with having, on August 25* forged a Post-office order telegram for the payment of 10s. Mr Lewis defended.—lnspector Mallard stited that the case was adjourned a week Bmce for the production of certain documents from Wellington These had arrived, but since the adjournment prosecutor had gone away. The police had telegraphed to Christohuroh, a»d the Commissioner of Polioe there had intimated to the department here that the prosecutor was there two days before the telegram was forwarded, but that he had gone away It was not known where he had gone to and, of course, the case could not go to trial till prosecutor was here. Under the circumstances he could only ask —and he did not know whether their Worships would aocede to the reauest—for a further adjournment; and if the Court oon* sidered the case warranted it, he would produce evidence to show that the police were justified in getting the oriminal law in mot,o ?A Pi oQurw the reused could not ha oommitted for trial unless the prosecutor was present.—Mr Lewis said that from the particulars which he gathered from his briethe was not surprised that the prosecutor could not he found.
