KAIK RAI YARDS.

To the Editor. Sir, —What has become of the project ardently spoken of some time ago—to have a direct road between the Kaikorai hill and town ? There are actually three excellent roads between Melrose and the Observatory, carried a considerable distance to town, and stopped either by the Belt or open paddock. The large population on the hill necessitates one or other of them being carried on. As things are traffic has to go right and left—along way off the direct route. Some energetic resident in the district ought at once to get up a petition to tho proper authorities before all Lope of a road is cut off by these paddocks being sold and built upon. Everybody would sign it.—l am, &c., Alexis. October 5.
