THE SUBMARINE CABLE
INTERCOLONIAL NEWS. Sydney, Octobea 4. It is understood that the Government have received a communication from the Superintendent of Telegraphs, now in England, that from information obtained it is improbable that the American Government will subsidise a cable between America and Australia. A body—that ol an old man—has been found in the schooner Atlantic, which was capsized in a recent gale. In Queensland the body of a line repairer was found in the bush, in the North District, It is supposed that hr had wandered away from tho track, and perished from thirst. He had walkoJ round in a circle within 100 yards of a track leading to a waterhole.
