NEW MORTAR MIXING DEPOT.
To the Editor. Sib, Your usually observant local " Newsman" has failed to record the locality of a recent busy industry— employing Beveral workers of late—namely, three-fourths of the foot pavement of Manse street. Here, goes en the mixing and general manipulation of mortar for a large building in course of erection j and, what with waggon-loads of sand, barrels full and unfilled, lime and mortar in various stages of maturity, men with shovels and three-pronged forks, all being on the foot pavement at the same time, quite a lively scene presents itself to passers by. It is true persons cannot walk on the pavement: they have to go into the road, and 6ome say viciossly naughty words at the pavement being usea for such a purpose. Still the work goes bravely on. Other thoroughfares might be* similarly utilised by your directing attention to the busy scene presented by the one in question.—l am, &c, _ PHMESnUAir. Dunedin, September 30.
