The competition by the City Guards on Saturday for their challenge cup and prize money resulted in the cup falling to Vol. Webster for the next three months. The morning squad furnished the two highest scorers, but when it is considered that those who fired in the afternoon had to do so during an almost blinding storm, their performances are, it must t>e admitted, very creditable. The challenge match, which was also the deciding match between the West Taieri Rifles and the S.D.R. Rifles, took place on the East Taieri Itifle Company's range on Saturday last, and resulted in a victory for the S.D. Rifles. The weather was anything but favorable for shooting, as there was a strong wind blowing, varying about eight points, and accompanied with heavy falls of rain, which put many of the competitors at a disadvantage, as one time the target would be showing bright and at another it could scarcely be seen. The scores are subjoined : WEST TAKBI.
