The disaster to the City of Melbourne with tha loss of a number of valuable racehorses, and the loss of the Dandenong with tho loss ef fifty-eight lives, hive caused considerable sensation. All hopes of the Dandenong are now abandoned. For a time the hopes of those having relations on board were kept up by rumors and hopes thnt the vessel had or would be able to safely reach the land; but when a portion of the wreckage was found all hope was abandoned. I (In the Victorian Parliament ihe Education Bill been passed, and <he Electoral Bill is being considered in committee at present. No amendments of any importance have been accepted. At the theatres, Mrs Scott Siddons' engagement comes to a close this week, and Mr Edwin Adams, the tragedian opens there. Wilson's circus is also in preparation. The markets are strengthening. Brandies, kerosene, and sugars have risen considerably, owing to the B«wi from home. Hops, tinned salmon, and herrings have also advanced. Wheat 6s 4d, aud at that price firm.
