Friday, September 22, (Before His Worship the Mayor and R, Patterson, Esq., J.P.)

Drunkenness. —John Francis was fined 40a, in default, forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.

Female Pugilists. —Anne Vaughan and Mary Duggan were charged with conducting themselves in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace.—Constable Johnston said that he was on duty in Walker street about on# o’clock this morning. His attention being attracted to a great noise in a brothel in Machin's right-of-way he proceeded there and found the two prisoners having a stand up fight. They had hold of each other by the hair, and h# separated them. Duggan thereupon seized a j plate and struck the other prisoner over the head with it.—They were each fined 40s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Improper Behaviour.— George Saddler, cabman, was charged by John M’Lean, commission agent, with having on, the 13th inst., while driving a public vehicle for the conveyance of passengers, so misconducted himself as to endanger the safety of the informant by striking with a whip a horse then being ridden by him on the Anderson’s Bay road— Defendant admitted striking the horse, but pleaded that it was an accident. The night was dark, and in endeavoring to strike his nwn horse he struck informant’s. —Tlie evidence on the other hand showed that defendant deliberately steuck informapt’s horse, and that when called on te stop he refused to do so.—The Bench would not tolerate such conduct as that exhibited by the defendant. This being the first case of the kind, the penalty of 20s and costs would be inflicted.
