FIRE AT SOUTH DUNEDIN.
A four-roomed house at Sdttth Draedih# owned nod occupied by Mr : Ben, took fire at 445 this morning, and wasoompletely • burned down. The fire is attainted tp the bursting of a kerosene lamp. Reid states that he got up abouir twenty ntmPies before the fire occurred to prepaid somefopA for his yoqngest child, and on returning to the bedroom left a lamp burning in the kitchen. He had -only been about four minutes in the bedroom when he heard a noise as if the lamp had exploded,- and on going into the kitchen he found the lamp nad burst and the oil sprinkled over the sideboard and the partition, and both on fire. He got a couple of blankets and some water, but was unable to extinguish'the fire - . ‘The bhllcßng' was insured in the National Office for L3OO, and there was a policy of L2OO on the furniture and effects in the w»na office. Mr Reid estimates -Ins loss at • which he states there was L2OO in notes in a be was unable to save. The adjoining bouse, owned by Mr Obery. wa* damaged to the extent of LSO, and wasirisured in the New Zealand Office for L2OO. Mr Thoa. Daffy, the occupier, loses LSOf damage to furniture through removal, is covered by a policy in the National Office. ;
