WASTE LAND BOARD.
The following was. the principal business transacted at to-day's meeting, which was attended by Messrs Strode (in the chair), Butterworth, and Clark.
The application of the secretary of the Macraes Progress Committee, that the sales of town allotments in that township might take place there instead of at Naseby, was referred to the District Laud Officer.
Mr John Cumming, of Waipahee, was informed that the residence olause in his case would not be enforced.
The Immigration Officer at Dunedin asked instructions from the Board to guide him in his future action in lodging applications on behalf of immigrants under "The Immigrants Land Act, 1873," and as to whether immigrants' certificates, which entitle them to purchase Crown lauds, can be received in payment of town as well as rural lands under that Act. It was minuted that " The Board is of opinion that the Immigrants' Land Act applies solely to rural lauds, but would be guided by an opinion of the Solicitor-General, if the Immigration Department sees fit to procure it." Mr M'Grinnan ask«a the Board to allow him to purchase section 2, block 18, Tapanui township, on which he had erected a dwel-ling-house before the township was surveyed, or to be allowed valuation for improvements when the section is auctioned. —The latter course was adopted. Several applications by Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop in respect t-j applications for pre-emptive rights on runs, were postponed for a week. Connell and Moodie, for J. T. Herbert, applied to have section 27, block 8, Crookston (which is unsuitable for a school site) be put up to auction or leased.—Referred to the Government for inquiry by an officer acquainted with the facts. Connell and Moodie, for Andrew Allen, applied to have section 63, block 13, Glenkenich, granted under former application. Land to be included in the extension of Tapanui township, and, when sold, valuation for improvements, &c, to be added. The plan of Tapanui township extension was approved, and its class altered from rural to town.
Connell and Moodie, on behalf of intending applicants, applied to have unsold surveyed lands in Kuriwoa, Wirikiki, Otatar* ma, Pukerau, Kaiwera, and all other hundreds advertised open for application. Referred to Government, asking if there is any objection to the request being complied with.
Mr Harlow iuquired whether two persons could apply conjointly for 20C acres under the deferred payn ent system. The Board was inclined to reply in the affirmative, hut it was eventually resolved to obtain the Provincial Solicitor a opinion on the subject.
