FATALITIES.

A very sudden death occurred onboard the Arawata on her voyage from Melbourne to the Bluff. On Friday morning Mrs Cowper, the wife of Mr Cowper, of Invercargul, whilst in the ladies' cabin dropped dead. The deceased lady had been suffering from heart disease.

A fatal accident has been reported from the West rn district. During the recent wet weather the Aparima, like all the other rivers, was highly flooded, and a man named Alex. Dunmore. attempted to cross it on horseback near Dunrobin station, but unfortunately he was washed off the animal and drowned. His body was subsequently recovered.

At 2 p.m. on the 14th inst. the inhabitants of Campbelltown were startled by the news of the drowning of Mr Isaac Butterfield (butcher) and his eldest son Isaac. As is usual when vessels are coming into the harbor they, with two men named. Dimond and Donovan, proceeded to board them for orders. The schooner Dunedin being the first in the entrance, the boat went alongside, the vessel at the time going about four knots, against a strong tide, which appears to have been too much for the boat, as she half filled and then capsized. Dimond managed to spring on to the schooneVs chains, but the other three were carried towards the rip. The cutter Nautilus, coming from Stewart's Island, picked Donovan off the boat, but could see nothing of the others. Mr Butterfield leaves a wife and six children.—' News.'
