Mr Skene reportE, for the week ending lGtb. inst., a denided improvement in th* labor market, principally in the demand for ordinary laborers, farm and station people, and bush hands. The town inquiry is slowly improving with the opening season ; the building trade is healthv; couples move slowly; female ordinary servants' of experience are very scarce; storemen and clerks are ittle needed and poorly paid. Wages: Couples, LGS to LBO ; ploughmen, L 52, L 55. and LCO; shepherds, L6)and LC3; day labor, bush, road, and vail, 7s, Ss, and 9s; dairy hands, 15a, 20s, and 25s per week ; cooks, waiters, grooms, gardeners, &c, 25s to 50s; carpenters, 10s to 13s per day ; hona-i girls, 10s to 15s; hotel do, 12s, 15s, 20s, and 30s for cooks; boys and girls, 6s to 10s; clerks and storemen, IJOs to COs.
