UNION CLUB V. BALCLUTHA CLUB.

A match between these two clubs was played at Balclutha, according to the Association rules, on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in an easy victcry for the visitors. Play was commenced about 1.30 p m., during a heavy shower of rain, but after half an hour's play the rain ceased, and the"weather proved beautifully fine during the latter part of the game. The game was playedin a large field close to the rifle-range, and so f sloppy was the ground that anything like wd play could not possibly be looked for.he Dunedin team consisted of twenty men, but as the Balclutha Club could only muster eighteen players, to equalise the sides it was decided that Lees (Union Club) should do duty for Balclutha. The players were :-

Balclutha.—Messrs Stevens, Barnes, Barr, Cowie (captain). Stanbrook, M'Xay, Frier, Mason, M'Neil. Hendry, Louden, Kiluour, Davis, Algie, Latimer! Baxter, Edgar, Lees (Union Club), and Campbell. UnionTeam—Messrs Grant, Teßeder, Monteith, Israel, Weston. Nicol, LitHe, Cowie J. (captain), M'Kumon Barber, Cowie, Logan, Gibb, Cargill W„ Yuille, and Cbapman.

The ulutha captain won the tosa, and decided to kick with the wind, M'Kay kicking off. The ball soon found its way down to the Balclutha oval, and was kept close to the goal, but the gaol was well defended, and during the first part of the game no score was made. At half-time a change of goal was made, Dunedin now kicking with the wind. First blood was scored for Dunedin shortly afterwards by M'Kinnon, who kicked a goal. Cowie and A.
