The tender of Mr John Whitt vkar for L 5.566 for laving the permanent way from Mr Proudfoot’a, or (lit; Hook contract to the Waitaki bridge, has been accepted. With ordinary weather, the work should bo completed within twelve or thirteen weeks from the present date, and then there will be no difficulty beyond that ores'- uted hv tho Kaka bridge, near Hampden, which the, Messrs Brogden have shown can be over-co-Dc without much tiouble, in the way of opening for traffic the railway from Christchurch to Moeraki.
