BILLIARDS.
Mr Roberts, the English billiard champion, plays his first match in Dunedin at the Temperance Hall this evening, his opponent being Mr T. Nesbitt, who receives 600 points out of 1,000. The Temperance Hall has been fitted up in such a manner that a good view of the table will be obtained from any of the seats, and the charges are very reasonable. Mr C. Mansen, who played two matches with _Mr Roberts at Invercargill—losing one and winning one—has arrived in Dunedin, and will play the champion again during the season. Mr W. Weston, the champion of the Australian Colonies, is a resident amongst us, and it is to he hoped that a match will be arranged between him and the Home player before the latter leaves Dunedin, A large number of what would prove to be interesting matches are talked about, but nothing definite has been arrived at.
