THE COUNTIES BILL.
On Wednesday Mr Shrimski, M.H.R., addressed the following telegram to tile Associated Road Boards, North Otago : Call special meeting at once of all your Boards, invite Oamaru Corporation, and Bend telegram to Otepopo and Moeraii to a tend meeting, and ask if they are willing to two oonnties. namely, Otago one, Southland one; or do they wish a separate county for Waitaki. Must have an answer not later than Friday morning.
Last night the Municipal Council met to consider the matter, and carried the following resolutions:-"That in the opinion of this Council, assuming that the Province of Otago is to be divided into Shires and brought under County administration, it would be very unsatisfactory that there should be only two Counties, the one having Dunedin- and the other Invercargill for its County town. 2. That a separate County administration should be given to North Otago, the County to consist of the present electoral district of Waitaki, together with so much of the country on the Canterbury side of the Waitaki as is included within the same watershed."
Tie conference of the Waireka, Kakanui, and Waitaki Road Boards was held this morning. It was unanimously resolved—- " That in the opinion of this meeting,, representing the united Road Boards of Kakanui, Waiareka, and Waitaki, it is necessary that there should be separate County administration for this part of Otago, together with so much of the late Province of Canterbury as has interests in common therewith, and by aatural boundaries should be under the same administration." The other resolution defined the boundaries, which commence at the mouth of Wairakarua River near Otepopo, and ends at Waitaki River! but includes a portion of Waimate.
