CANTERBURY AND WELLINGTON AT FOOTBALL.
This match took place at the Hutt yesterday, play commencing at three o'clock. Wellington scored first the half point and the third, Canterbury winning all the' rest. The ground was in Bplendid condition, but lumpy, and the weather fine but rather windy. The Governor was present. The ball was kioked off at twelve minutes to thr«e by Wellington, who, having won the toss, played the first half-hour with the wind on their back. After the first two minutes Wellington scored a half point' by a foroe down. After five minutes' play the ball kept close to the Wellington goaL when Canterbury got a foroe down. At 3.3 p.m., Wellington again secured * force down by a Sand rush. At 3.5 p.m., Canterbury took ur more foroe downs in quick Buoceasion. At 3.20, second half tub, Canterbury scoring half point. 3.30,' Canterbury getting the bast of it, rapeatedly scoring; score standing— Canterbury, Wellington 1; when OUivier scored a down for Canterbury. A goal was kicked at 3.50, and the score stood—Canterbury 19, Wellington 1. For Wellington, Park, James Thomson, and Smith were playing well, and Cotterill's drop kicking was very effective for Canterbury. " __________»«_■___
