September 7.—Easby, s.s., 996 tons, Kennedy, from Sydney, via Wellington. {Passengers: Mrs Fulton, Misses Fulton (4), Mdlle. Neaderhauser and servant, Messrs D'Arcy, Haggitt, and one steerage. September &—Express, s.s., 136 tons, Christian, from the Bluff. SAILED. September 7.—Ada Wiswell, barquentine, 557 tons, Wiswell, for Wellington. Septembtr B.—Samson, p.s., 124 tons, Edie, for Oamaru. The local whaler Splendid arrived off the Heads yesterday afternoon from the Macquarie Islands, where she left a working party who succeeded in capturing twelve sea elephants, before she left, on the 28th of August. Captain Earle, who came up to the port last evening, reports encountering a rocceasion of heavy gales from the S.W. after eaving the Macquaries; passed the Solanders on the 4th inst., and ran into Port William same day. Bemained there for twenty-four hours, when she made another start, and experiencing a terrific gale from N W. to S.W. off Buap.ike Island, was hove-to under bare poles for thirty-six hours. During the gaie she drove as far north as Oamaru. The gale moderated at 9 p.m. on the 6th, when she got a N.W. wind, and arrived at the Heads as above. The Union Company's steamer Hawea arrived alongside the railway pier at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. After landing her passengers and discharging cargo, she hauled to the head of the Graving Dock, and was taken in this morning for her periodical overhaul. She left Onehunga at 4.30 p.m. on the Ist inst., called at Taranaki, Nelson, Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton, which latter pori she left at 5 p.m. on the 6th, arriving as above. Wo thank Mr Newman (purser) fer report and exchanges. The schooner Jessie Nicol, with a full cargo of timber from the Bluff, arrived yesterday afternoon. She left the Bluff at noon c n the 6th ; had strong S.W. winds to the Nuggets; thence light N.W. to arrival. Captain Peterson reports the ship Wairoa loading timber at the Bluff for Dunedin. The barquentine Ada Wiswell, with part of her ! original cargo from New York, for Wellington, took her departure yesterday afternoon, being towed clear of the land by the Geelong. Messrs Fulton and Co.'s s.s. Easby, from Newcastle, via Sydney and Wellington, arrived alongside the railway pier yesterday afternoon. She left Newcastle at 11 p.m. on the 25th ult., and arrived at Sydney early next morning. After taking on board a quantity of oedar logs an 1 general cargo, she left on the evening of the 28th, and experienced strong westerly winds. Passed Cape Farewell on the morning of the Brd inst., and arrived at Wellington the same evening, having made the passage across in five days twenty-three and a-balf hours. Discharge! a quantity of general cargo and 200 tons of coal, nnd left at noon on the sth. After passing Cape Campbell encountered a strong S.S.
