CITY POLICE COURT.
Thursday, September 7. (Before T. Birch, Esq., and D. F. Main, Esq., J.P.’s.) Drunkenness. Bobert Wigmia and Gardner Huvsell were each fined 56, is default, twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Alleged Trespass. Priscina Phillips, charged by Sergeant Finnegan with being illegally on the premises of Martin and Watson, was dismissed. Mr Stamper deended. Fraud. —Henry Boxwell was charged by John Brookes with obtaining from John VeZey, by means of false pretences, 8s in money and a fowl of the value of 3a.—Mrs Brookes sai l that on May 18 she asked accused, who was going out to St. Kildaj to see if a Mrs Moore there had any goods for witness, and if so to bring them into town with him. On the following Saturday she met accused, who told her that there were some things in a towel for her at Vezey’s butcher’s shop. On going there she found that prisoner had got the towel which Mrs Moore had left for her. The towel contained a fowl and eight shillings. She afterwards met prisoner, and he admitted tl^ v ’ n g g ot the towel and promised to return it to u” r wit h its contents, but he had not done so. —prisoner, who said he took the goods because prosecutrix owed him for a day’s work, was to gaol for seven days. Threatening Language. - Turpen charged Mary Ellen Hargrea ve s with using obscene and profane language* towards her, Mr Monat defended. —There was no appearance of complainant, and the case was dismissed with costs.
