TMs Company is projected by gentlemen largely interested in the New Zea’arH trade, under the conviction that thn exist ng communication is i adequate for tfje work. The promote s are convi ced that the growing requirements of the trade call urgently for additional steam communication. They confidently be'ieve, and are assured by many of :he principd mercantile firms in M 1bourne and New Zealand, that an important expansion of the traffic will certainly follow the commencement of the Company’s operations. The promoters are already in possession of particulars and prices obtained from some of the first s* ipbuilders in Great Britain, of steamers best suited for the trade with New Zealand, Now Caledonia, the Fiji Is’ar.ds, etc. Such stetmers may bo briefly described as vessels of large capacity on such a draft of water as will enable them to take their cargoes to and from the wh rve a , with accommodation for about 200 first and second class passengers, and steaming ful y 12 knots an hour, with the latest improv d compound engines for economising fuel and space. The promoters have great confidence in placing the present enterprise before the fmblic, based on the marked fuccesa of the arge and i .creasing number of steamers trading on our coasts, there being now registered as belonging to the Fort of Melbourne rixty-one steam vessels f a 1 descriptions, which have grown out of the earnings of twelve steamers of all sorts belonging to the port in 1853, and the increa-e of vessels employed in the New Zeala d trade is perhaps more marked than anv other.

It is desired further to direct attention o t e following f cts, tending to the rdvanta/e of the project, viz : -The stimulus to trade by the established telegraphic communication between the two countries. Ih- great r fa i ilie« for development of the grainproducing interest, '• anifest in the growing trade of Oama u and Timaru as well as the more s nthern parts of the Middle 1 sland, for which produce Victoria can find a permanent market. The prospect of an ea ly r vision of the Victorian Tariff in the interests of tr de and commerce. Ihe cur tive i roperth sof the Hot Hirings of New Zea’and as fencing to promote an increase of visitors in que«t of health. And the large number of steamers *nd pa senger ships from > nro e India, Chin , and America having their tei'mini i> Austra lian ports, carrying an increasing number of passenger* for or from New Zealand. All which growing interests wili tend to the advantage «f the new Company. Following the plan of bte adopted in England by recently-formed Shippin-r Companies, it is proposed that the busines- aha 1 be managed in Melbourne as an AGENCY, under the control of the Directory, thus * voiding the outlay for a lar e and costy establishment Gentlemen have lately visited New Zealand in the interests of the proposed Company. They met with a most cordial reception received numerous subscrip ions and promises of support amor.g many >-ectionß of the community. In fact, New Zelav.d and Melbourne interests are thus so extensive ;y en dated in the ('ompany, a- shareholders and otherwise that thf ew i ine f Steamers cannot fail to obt.da that am le support which wi 1 render the enterprise a sue/ess.

In conclusion, the promoters would invite intending investors t-< make prompt ap lications for sha' es, t enable th mto < ontract for the building of the new ships while the co t of construction ru!es low as at the preset time There are no speoi-l advantages offer-d to any shareholders, and therefore no promoter <’ i' be-ests to b paid. If no allotment is made the deposit money v, ill be returned in full forms of application and all nformation are obta nable from the Company’s brokers, M 1 bourne and Dnnedn, who will receive app ications acoompani d by a d posit o Ll per s are, and from the Provisional irectors or their appointees in i'ew Z' almd, and at the branches of the Bank »>f New Zealmd. he Articles of Associati n, when preptred will be open for ingpeo ion at the brandies < f tile Bank of >ew Zealand in ew Zealand, and at the brokers in Melbou ne and N«w Zearanas and dt the officte of the agents of the Cctotftfljyi .
