AN AMUSING SKIT.
The ‘Post ’ in a recent issue published the following“A public meeting of the late Deception Committee and some of their many friends are ordered to meet at the Princess Hotel for the purpose of making the required arrangements to celebrate the man who has conferred such inestimable blessings on New Zealand, mere especially the working man in Wellington, who, without him, had no ilhity of purpose or hopes of independence, and were without happy homes. The Princess has been especially selected as the place of meeting, to suit the convenience of Sir George Grey, K.C.8., who takes a very deep and warm interest in all that relates to Sir Julius, both as regards the past and his happy future career. Messrs Rees, Sheehan, Stout, Joyce, and Dr Hodgkinaon, and numerous other, admirers will doubtless attend. Messrs Pearce and Hunter, members for the City, will on this occasion be requested to speak, and ibis hoped they will be assisted by the presence ef Captain Moss and Captain Whiteford, with the elite of that noble body of men, the -Central and Wellington Fire Brigade, together with their engines decorated with flags and flowers. Bauds ef music and muffled drums. Mr E. T. Gillon, member for Te Are, clothed in double-dyed garments, will probably be entrusted with the fireworks. Mr Edward Wakefield, M.H.R. for Geraldine, will take care of the barrels of beer at the corners of the principal thoroughfares. No means will be left untried* make this grand historical event one ' and of our two members particularly ®ntes will be scationod at the chief Ministerial residence, and all mourners will, it is expected, appear on his embarkation in fancy dress costume. Mr Murray, M.H.R., with his fiddle will kindly superintend these utter arrangements.
