Drunkenness. —Margaret Smith was' fin«d 10s, in default three days’ imprisomnent.*Mary O’Leary, an old offender and one of the “Asiatic” importations, was charged with being drunk and disorderly. Prisoner said that, dnring her residence in the Colony, she had never had an opportunity of bettering herself. She was no sooner out of prison than she was “run in” again.—lnspector Mallard was about to make an explanation, when prisoner interrupted him by requesting him “ for God’s sake ’ not to say anything wrong about her. She was bad enough and was not anxious to hear the Police Inspector’s opinion of her. Mr Hlack remarked that prisoner had just served fourteen days for drunkenness.— Mary : For the love of God don’t give me another fourteen days. If I only get my liberty I will go right away from the place. I am the mother of six children, and their poor father is dead,—She was discharged with a strong caution.—Prisoner; God Almighty’s blessing on your honors for your kindness. (To the Inspector); Good morning.- (Laughter). Unregistered Dog. —James Peart was charged, on remand, with keeping an unregistered dog. He produced a certificate to show it had been registered by its owner, Mrs Lawson, since the service of the summons.—The case was dismissed, the Bench stating that in future cases the plea that a dog had been registered since service of the summons would be of no avail
Charge or Stealing Newspapers.—On the remanded charge against John Tli/ww Horan of stealing two newspapers from the Post-office being called on, Mr Bteot applied for a farther adjonnanent tfll Saturday as the Crown Prosecutor, who instructed to conduct <•«»» -yrsg tp the Supreme Court.—Mr Nation, who fended, ejected strongly to any farther adjournment.—The Beadt -fti> cosed tfH Monday, admitting Hfm to
