WASTE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day, when there present —Messrs Strode (Deputy Chief Commissioner), Bastings, and Clark, and the following business was transacted : Mr Kenneth MTvor asked time to explore the country in the vicinity of run 453, Waiau district. Allowed till May 1 next. The petition of residents in Kaitangata township that a small piece of land in the township adjoining the lake might be reserved for recreation purposes, was referred to the Government.

The Government forwaidod a letter from Mr Charles Sproule containing a request that the sum of L4O 6s 3d paid by him as valuation for improvements for fencing; &c., on sections 32, 64, and 62, block 7, Waipahee District, paid to Government, might be forwarded to him.—Referred back to the Government with a recommendation from the Board to comply with the applicant’s request. Messrs Smith and Anderson, solicitors for the Corporation of the City of Dunedin, requested the Board to state and submit a case for the opinion of the Supreme Court upon its decision of 16th instant re applications of Messrs Kempthorne, Davie, Mackerras, and others. —The Board declined to state and submit a case as requested, leaving the applicants to their remedy under the 4th and sth sections of the Waste Land Board Appeal Act, 1867.

Reconsideration of application by Mr A. Goodall stated her objections to deferred payment sections 9 and 10, block 5, Lower Hawea district, being assigned by the executors of the.late W. A., Goodall to John M*Rae. It was minuted that the Board bad no power to interfere with the operation of the law. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Hugh Wallace, applied for quarry license, part Of section 48 (and adjoining block 8), Oamaru. Referred to ranger Tor report. Mr Robert Dunlop applied to transfer deposit lodged with application for section 6, block 2, Slopedown district, to section -6,. block 4, Waikaka, for which he intends to apply- Permission to exchange was granted, if it can be legally effected; and refund of deposit to be allowed.

Mr John Riddell,- deferred payment licensee of section 13, block 8, Toetoes, having occupied said section for three years, elects to have his tenure extended by obtaining lease for other seven years in terms of clause 54, sub-clause 5. Referred to the Ringer for report.. W. and J. Culling’s application to purchase section 13, block 14, Crookstown, was declined, the laud being required for public purposes.

James Lamond’s application for lease of village reserve in the Waikaka district was declined.
