THE TEREMAKAU RUSH.
To the Editor. Sir,—The telegram in the ' Times 'of today from Hokitika has evidently been sent by a person who is ignorant of mining or has some ulterior design. The statement that there is room for thousands shows the absurdity on the face of it. The facta of the case are that the Eldorado, so blatantly heralded forth, is situated on the Teremakau, a river north of Stafford town. The whole of the intervening country between the latter and the Grey has been for years thoroughly prospected. 'Tis true the tail end of an old lead has been picked up, and no doubt a few lucky one 3 will make a pile ; but the absurdity of there being room for thousands is patent to anyone who knows the Coast. The richest lead (the Salt Water) in its palmiest days would, not maintain thousands, and if there was a lead from Stafford Town to the Grey it would not. Therefore I think it a duty to state the above facts to prevent misery and disappointment.—l am, &c, Truth. Dunedin, August 22.
