THE VICTORIAN RIFLE TEAM AT WIMBLEDON.

Loxdon, July 25. The rifle team from Victoria arrived in London on July 4, all well. The entries were kept open for them, and they are contesting almost everything, During the first week they have fired with the Snider rifle, and though averaging well have not approached the top scores. On the 11th inst. Captain Greenfield, of the Ballarat Rangers, made the best average in all the camp, but has not been in good form since. The weather has been intensely hot, and the wind variable and baffling. No Australians were in the first 60 for the Queen's Prize, though five of them take L 3 prizes. The Association Silver Medal was won with a score of 86 by Mr Burgess, of Newcastle, England. A score of 78 entitled the marksman to the N.K.A. badge. The highest Australian scores were as follows :

Lieutenant Draper 77 Captain Wardill 74 Captain King ... .... 73 Major Sleep 72 Captain Greenfield 67 Only two out of twenty-four Canadians who competed take prizes in the Queen's Prize competitions. The Queen's Prize, at 800, 900, and 1,000 yards, with the Government Martini-Henry rifle, was won by Sergeant Pullman, of the 2nd Middlesex Rifles.

The Victorians were .unable to form a team of eight to compete for the Kholapore Cup, but an international match took place between the Victorians, Engl : sh, Scotch, and, Canadians, which lasted two days, having been commenced on the 19th inst., and concluded on the 22nd inst. Through a dissension amongst the Irish they were not represented, ana no Indian Volunteers competed. The first day's shooting was with the Government military,weapon, the Mar-tini-Henry rifle, and the Score stood thus :~

The distances, as in the Kholapore Cup, were 200, 500, and 600 yards. : On the second day the firing was with the Bmall-bore, ~and„at the conclusion of the match the total scores stood :—''

The total aggregate value of the prizes secured by the Australians amounted to L 72. An invitatioa has been received for the team to visit Ireland in August, but as they leave Liverpool for Philadelphia in the middle of August, they will be unable to accept the invitation, much as the visit of the Australian team is desired. There is a talk of a Home team visiting Australia.
