Auckland, August 9. Nine of the crew of the Crawthorpe have been arrested on a charge of disobedience and broaching cargo. Lucifer matches scattered about the hold showed that the men had used naked lights there. The case was remanded.
Wellington, August 10. A telegram was received by the Premier last evening from Messrs Sims and Taylor, -.the gentlemen in charge of the cable-repair-ing steamer Edinburgh. It is dated yesterday, and states that the Edinburgh has returned to Port Darwin, having repaired the cable. The breaks were on a hard bottom on Sahut Bank. They have put down a heavier cable over this bank# The BataviaSingapore section was repaired on 25th July.
