CITY POLICE COURT.

Tuesday, August 1. (Before Dr Niven, J.P., and T. Birch, Eso J.P.)

Drunkenness.— Robert Phillips, for this offence, was fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment; Edward Arbuclde, 5s or twenty-four hours; and James O’Hearh and Robert Scott were discharged with a caution.

Beeach op the Peace. —Richrrd Webb and Robert Martin were jointly charged, with having been fighting in a public street last night, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. The evidence of two constables was taken, which was to the effect that, while Webb and his brother * wero (parcelling together, Martin joined in by inflicting a blow upon his companion in trouble.—Martin denied having done so, saying his intention was to stop the brothers from fighting, and he called two witnesses to prove that such was the case.—After hearing their evidence, one of the constables was recalled, who stated that he “could see the blow struck by Martin as plain as he could seekheir Worships upon the Bench.** —Their Worships could put no credence in the evidence of Martin’s witnesses, and imposed a fine of 10s upon each of the offenders, with the option of forty-eight hoars’.
