Business for the last two weeks has been unusually dull, and very few transactions of any uo. l e have taken place. The news from up-country is that on account of the severe frost mining operations tire in many districts suspended. There has been a little done in produce, oats being in demand at Is 8d to Is 9d; butter is a shade easier. LABOE MAEKET. Mr Skene reports the demand in the labor market is almost confined at present to country-bred people and to female servant*. The demand never flags for . either. Town wants ore few at present, and most 'Wiled trades are slack. Couples are in good dottaad, Btoremen and clerks are litt needed and
poorly paid, unless good. The demand for shepherds will soon be on. Dairy people are much sought for. Mnle botel servants are quiet. Wages: Couples, L6O, L 65, to L 7 5; shepherds, LGO and L 6 5; ploughmen, L 52, L 55, and L? 0; dairy hands, 15s aud 255; day labcr, 7s, Bs, and 9s; house girls, 10s, 12s, and ISe; hotel do, 12s, 15s, and 30s; carpenters, 10s, 12s, and 13s; boys and girls, 6s to 10s; shopmen and clerks, 30s to 50s; country carpenters, 10s and found.
