WALTON PARK COAL COMPANY.

A number of gentlemen accepted an invitation flora the proprietors of the Walton Park Coal Company vo inspect their mine to-day. A special tiain left Dunedin at noon, conveying the excursionists, and arrived a f - Its death ation half-an-hour Inter, The mine is situated to the east of Sj<ldle Hill, and commands. a fine view of Fairfield and Green Island. It is now seven years since on effort was first made to work the mine, and three yeais since a public proprietary was formed. On arrival at the terminus me visitors inspected the coal mine nnd pit Mr Loudon explaining the workings. At the bottom of ihe shaft luncheon was provided by Mess’s Watson Bros. Mr Cargill proposed " Prosperity to the Walton Park Co.” in a'lengtheued speech, the toast being warmlr received. The healths of the woikmen iii the mine, and of the chairman were drunk. Amongst those pr-sent were h : s Worship the Mayor, Mr Conyers, and Mr W. N. Blair.
